Network design and planning is a creative activity and a rewarding career path.
However, there is a price to be paid for all the fun network planners have. The creative
playtime with technology in designing a network is punctuated by the tedious and error prone
steps.
The goal of this site is to offer tools that design engineers need to ...
- reduce the drudgery and errors in network planning
- impress the boss and customers
- have more fun
Here are a couple of web-based tools that network engineers might find useful.
Any suggestions or comments to improve usability of these tools are welcome
here.
IP Address Calculators
are frequently needed in initial steps of a design. The first one, given a subnet address and mask calculates host address range, network address and broadcast address.
The second tool divides an address space with a mask into multiple subnets. The tool produces a subnet addressing plan with the host range and broadcast addresses with fixed or variable length masks.
Network Access Control Lists
are widely used for security and to manage traffic. The ACL Builder tool allows user to easily build Standard or Extended ACLs. The tool helps user choose the different parameters to create rules in the list
The second tool tests the ACL by matching each rule against user-defined packet header data. If a match is found the tool identifies the matching rule and corresponding action, permit or deny.
